Loree Philip:

Hi, and welcome to the Daring to Leap podcast. I am your host, Loree Philip. I am so excited and grateful that you're here with me on this very first episode of this podcast. So on this week's episode, we're going to be exploring the question, will you dare to leap?

Loree Philip:

By the end of this episode, you will have more awareness of where you are in your career journey and some inspiration to take a leap in your career and yourself. So let's get started. I want to start off by describing what I mean when I say dare to leap.

Loree Philip:

I think it's important to start here because Daring to Leap is the title of this podcast, and it's what this whole show is about. So when I speak of leaping, I'm talking about two different kinds of leaps, and they're both important.

Loree Philip:

One is the most obvious one, taking a leap in your career. The second one is taking a leap into yourself. And leaping in your career is about taking a big step forward in your career. That could be the next assignment in the career that you have right now, or a big career change into a different company, industry, or even profession.

Loree Philip:

Leaping into yourself is about knowing yourself better, trusting yourself more, building your intuition and listening to it. It's about strengthening that interconnect connection with yourself so you can bring forward your brilliance into your career and do it with confidence.

Loree Philip:

So now that I have those definitions out of the way, I want to start by sharing a quick story about my experience with taking a leap. And for those of you who don't know, I left a 16 year career as a strategist at Boeing to start a company and become an empowerment coach.

Loree Philip:

This was quite a big leap for me. And everybody else who heard about it was shocked. This was a big change. So what happened? I started listening to myself. One day during the pandemic, I was sitting on a routine webex call with my team, and out of nowhere, this question popped into my head.

Loree Philip:

Is this what you want to be doing for the next 15 years? And it was interesting because this call wasn't anything crazy. We were talking about the same things that we always talk about. But this was a new question that popped into my head because I had not considered doing something else.

Loree Philip:

See, the flow of my career up until this point was at Boeing doing various assignments and different functions, and I was doing really well. So this was kind of out of the blue. But it was interesting because in that moment, I really saw my career in the grand scheme of things.

Loree Philip:

And although it was a great career on paper, there was something missing. And I think this came up during COVID because as our health became more important and we start to see people getting ill and dying, we started to really put everything into the bigger perspective, the bigger picture, what's important and what's not important.

Loree Philip:

And I started to really feel the value of my time and energy. And as this question popped into my mind, I had to consider was I wasting my time doing this? In that moment, it was just a seed that was planted because I didn't have any answers.

Loree Philip:

I didn't know what else I would do. I hadn't really considered it, but I had the question, and that question became bigger and bigger. And as I explored it more and more, I got really clear about what I did want to do with my career.

Loree Philip:

And what came out of it is that I wanted more freedom, impact, and passion in my career. And I thought if I had these things, what was possible for me? It felt like anything was possible for me if I could get those things.

Loree Philip:

I went through that process of self discovery, the part where I'm talking about taking a leap into yourself. And I believe this was even more important for me than the actual leap from one career to another.

Loree Philip:

Because that part where I really understood what my values were, understood what I wanted to do, and felt so strongly about it with conviction. That's when I got the confidence to go for it, even when people were concerned that I was taking too big of a risk.

Loree Philip:

What are you doing? You have a great career. Those types of people came through. And again, I'm not saying you need to be ready to make a big move like I did. The key here is that it all started because I listened to myself.

Loree Philip:

So back to you. I want you to think about the flow of your career. If you stayed on this path and just follow it out the trajectory that you're on five years, ten years, 15 years. What do you see for yourself?

Loree Philip:

Are you happy with what you see? Are you getting what you really want out of your career? What would you love to do in your career? Take some time, do this reflection for yourself. And if you're groaning, I understand.

Loree Philip:

I've been there. I was the person at the leadership center in the class, and we have to sit down and reflect at the end of the day. And I was rolling my eyes. This is a waste of time. And then I went through that scenario I just described, and I realized how important it is.

Loree Philip:

The difference is that this is for you. You are here because your career is important, and understanding what you want and where you want to go is so important. So I'll ask you this question will you dare to leap dare to leap into yourself so that you can have the self awareness and confidence to bring your full brilliance into your career?

Loree Philip:

Dare to leap forward in your career with intention in the direction that you choose that aligns with yourself? If the answer is yes, great. On this podcast, we will not wait for others to give us permission to create the opportunities for us to tap us on the shoulder.

Loree Philip:

We will take our career in our own hands and make it happen. I'll be here to support you along the way. I can't wait to see your brilliance shine. Let's do it. Thank you so much for listening to this episode.
